Designed as the lexical companion to Wikipedia, the encyclopaedia project, Wiktionary has grown beyond a standard dictionary and now includes a thesaurus, a rhyme guide, phrase books, language statistics and extensive appendices. We aim to include not only the definition of a word, but also enough information to really understand it. Thus etymologies, pronunciations, sample quotations, synonyms, antonyms and translations are included. The United States Intelligence Community (IC) is a cooperative federation of 16 separate United States government agencies that work separately and together to conduct intelligence activities considered necessary for the conduct of foreign relations and the protection of the national security of the United States. Member organizations of the IC include intelligence agencies, military intelligence, and civilian intelligence and analysis offices within federal executive departments. The IC is led by the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), who reports to the President of the United States. Among their varied responsibilities, the members of the Community collect and produce foreign and domestic intelligence, contribute to military planning, and perform espionage. The IC was established by Executive Order 12333, signed on 4 December 1981 by President Ronald Reagan. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Modern espionage information? Q. Before 9/11, espionage was still a the cold war system. Where our enemies were clearly defined by their borders. But while nations have everything to lose, movements can survive on ideology alone. Al Qaeda was a new kind of enemy, calling for a new kind of spycraft. So my question is, how has the United States Intelligence community adapted since 9/11? Is the CIA now training agents in Arabic instead of Russian? Instead of recruiting ivy league kids fluent in German, Russian or Chinese, are they now recruiting Harvard grads of Arab, Persian or Mediterranean decent? Or has the CIA been replaced by new agencies unknown to most of the public? I'm sure the NSA is still on top. But what about Delta Force? Or Black Ops? Whose commando… [cont.] Asked by nitejrny282 - Tue Dec 4 08:11:40 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Let me begin with a disclaimer: I have no first-hand knowledge of the US intelligence community. All I can tell you is based on familiarity with foreign (in your terms) intelligence and operational organizations. The CIA has always been recruiting Arab speakers and training others in Arabic. They are still recruiting and training Russian speakers. What has changed, and this started happening before 9/11, was the proportion of Arabic assets within the CIA. This is a trend that began in the early 90's, as a response to the collapse of the USSR and what then seemed like the end of Russian aspiration for global hegemony. Of course, 9/11 was a great system shock and I have no doubt it has sped this process up. You ask if the CIA has been… [cont.] Answered by Yoni E - Tue Dec 4 11:04:25 2007 How do you feel about the National Security Agency listening to our soldiers private phone calls? ? Q. Washington (CNN) -- Congress is looking into allegations that National Security Agency linguists have been eavesdropping on Americans abroad. The congressional oversight committees said Thursday that the Americans targeted included military officers in Iraq who called friends and family in the United States. The allegations were made by two former military intercept operators on a television news report Thursday evening. A terrorist surveillance program instituted by the Bush administration allows the intelligence community to monitor phone calls between the United States and overseas without a court order -- as long as one party to the call is a terror suspect. Adrienne Kinne, a former U.S. Army Reserves Arab linguist, told ABC … [cont.] Asked by justagirl - Fri Oct 10 13:19:40 2008 - - 11 Answers - 1 Comments A. "They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty nor security." - Ben Franklin FYI, most phone calls back to the States by GIs are NOT made on official government phones, but on PUBLIC phones set up by the local civilian phone companies in the area. If the local phone company does not have the infrastructure then private companies such as AT&T or Kuwait Telephone are brought in to set up the lines. Ever notice those campaigns to get calling cards to the GIs overseas so that they can call back home? Now you know why and how it's done. Bush has a lot of 'splainin' to do on this one! Answered by Bostonian In MO - Fri Oct 10 14:07:28 2008 Are Libs behind the CIA leaks?
Q. President Bush speaking in New London, Connecticut. Does that name ring a bell, the name of that town, New London, Connecticut? That's where the Supreme Court's eminent domain decision took private property away from a poor person to give it to rich corporations to increase the tax base. He's there because he's releasing the details, declassified some Al-Qaeda intelligence, which bolsters the administration's contention that Al-Qaeda wants to use Iraq as a staging area to launch terrorist attacks around the world, including here in the United States. Fran Townsend, who is the White House homeland security advisor, said the information was declassified because the intelligence community's tracked down all the leads from the… [cont.] Asked by GREAT_AMERICAN - Wed May 23 19:42:10 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A.
