The United States Army is the branch of the United States armed forces responsible for land-based military operations. It is the largest and oldest established branch of the U.S. military and is one of seven uniformed services. The modern Army has its roots in the Continental Army which was formed on 14 June 1775, before the establishment of the United States, to meet the demands of the American Revolutionary War. Congress created the United States Army on 14 June 1784 after the end of the war to replace the disbanded Continental Army. The Army considers itself to be descended from the Continental Army and thus dates its inception from the origins of that force. The primary mission of the Army is to "provide necessary forces and capabilities ... in support of the National Security and Defense Strategies." Control and operation is administered by the Department of the Army, one of the three service departments of the Department of Defense. The civilian head is the Secretary of the Army and the highest ranking military officer in the department is the Chief of Staff, unless the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff or Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff are Army officers. The Regular Army reported a strength of 539,675 soldiers; the Army National Guard (ARNG) reported 360,351 and the United States Army Reserve (USAR) reported 197,024 putting the combined component strength total 1,097,050 soldiers (2008 Financial Year). Why would the USA Army take her? Asked by We won! 20 Jan 09 (Erudite) - Mon Mar 2 15:44:09 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. Possibly because of the benefits she would get as a Soldier for herself and her children. Free medical and $30 a month for dental probably looks good to her. However, if she is a single parent with full custody of at least one of them then she is disqualified from joining the active Army and needs a waiver for the reserves. If she is married she needs a waiver for dependency unless she only has custody of two of them and is paying child support for the third. Other than that, she can join if she meets all other requirements. Answered by AD - Mon Mar 2 15:57:33 2009 Do you think the ACUs look good? Will the United States Army get rid of the ACU style uniform?
Q. I think the ACUs look great! What do you think? I've heard speculation of them switching the pattern of the uniform from the ACU Digital pattern to the Multicam pattern? What do you think? Will they? Should they? Asked by yum_yum_getcha_sum - Sun Nov 25 15:58:38 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. They should get rid of the zipper and all the velcro, and make the fabric more resilient. I don't know who designed the uniform, but they certainly didn't have field expedience in mind. Have you ever tried to sew on a zipper in the field? Now compare that to sewing on a button.
